Canxi oxit do 2 nguyên tố tạo thành là canxi và oxi tạo nên. Khi bỏ canxi oxit vào nước, nó hóa hợp với nước tạo thành một chất mới gọi là canxichidroxit. Canxi hidroxit gồm những nguyên tố nào trong hân tử của nó
