Với khẩu hiệu “Nếu khó khăn cứ lấy một phần, nếu bạn ổn xin nhường cho người khác”, mô hình phát gạo tự động cho người nghèo lần đầu tiên xuất hiện tại thành phố Hồ Chí Minh không chỉ góp phần chia sẻ khó khăn với người lao động nghèo trên địa bàn, mà còn lan tỏa yêu thương, nhân rộng ra nhiều tỉnh, thành trong cả nước giữa mùa dịch bệnh Covid-19. Theo ông Hoàng Tuấn Anh, Giám đốc Công ty PHGLock, người sáng chế máy “ATM gạo” cho biết: Ý tưởng sáng chế máy “ATM gạo” bắt nguồn từ việc nhận thấy trong mùa dịch Covid-19 có nhiều người muốn tặng nhu yếu phẩm cho người nghèo, nhưng nếu phát thủ công và tập trung đông người thì rất dễ xảy ra việc lây lan dịch bệnh. Vì vậy, ông cùng nhóm nhân viên đã tận dụng máy móc có sẵn của công ty chế tạo ra chiếc máy phát gạo tự động này với mong muốn chia sẻ phần nào khó khăn của những người lao động nghèo trên địa bàn thành phố… Chính thức vận hành từ đầu tháng 4/2020, hàng trăm tấn gạo miễn phí đã được cấp phát tự động cho người lao động nghèo tại cây “ATM gạo” hoạt động 24/24, không chỉ thể hiện đạo nghĩa “lá lành đùm lá rách”, tinh thần tương thân tương ái, chia sẻ khó khăn của cộng đồng với những người lao động nghèo, khó khăn ảnh hưởng bởi dịch bệnh covid-19; mà còn cho thấy sự năng động, sáng tạo của cư dân TP.HCM, thành phố mang tên Bác - thành phố văn minh, hiện đại, nghĩa tình.
