From the past centuries, Bat Trang pottery has been of high quality and rare, but most of them are worship items: lampstands, incense burners, flower vases. Later, due to growing tastes, plus market demand, Bat Trang pottery had many household items, the most popular being bowls, plates, vases and jars.Currently, Bat Trang has about 1,150 ceramic kilns, of which 2/3 are modern gas furnaces, the rest are traditional kilns still fired with charcoal. Every day, the amount of coal smoke released into the air is very large, seriously affecting the environment and people's health. Since 2000, X54 Enterprise of the Capital Military Region has successfully researched and put into use gas-fired ceramic kilns in Bat Trang, both reducing 50-60% of the amount of smoke and CO2, while saving nearly 30% cost compared to coal fired furnace. However, due to the high cost of construction and installation of gas furnaces (about 100-150 million VND/furnace), many families have not yet invested in building furnaces. The road to the village is dusty, especially when cars pass by. Not only waste dust, on average, each coal-fired ceramic kiln in Bat Trang produces about 2.5 tons of solid waste per batch. Along with that, scraps and scraps of broken and damaged terracotta, pottery, and porcelain are piled up on the side of the road, every time it rains, the road is muddy and dirty. Although the pollution level is alarming, people only take simple measures such as spraying water to reduce dust, wearing closed hats, wearing masks, etc. If clean production methods are not soon applied, in order to environmental pollution reduction, sustainable development in Bat Trang will be threatened more and more. In terms of household size, small capital, narrow production space at home is also one of the very difficult problems of Bat Trang craft village today.
