The first and foremost level is primary school starting from the age of six and lasting five years. The next level is lower secondary within four years, which is followed by three years at upper secondary school. Besides, It is compulsory to spend nine years for primary and lower secondary level. In Vietnam, an academic year will take each student thirty-five weeks, in other words, nine months between September and May. Each school year includes two terms. The first term is from September to December; and the latter term is from January to May. After May, students will have a summer vacation. This period is also the time for high-school students to prepare for the national entrance examination to university which officially take places in early July.
