Have you ever talked to a Cham person? Well, there are many fascinating things about this ethnic group that I want to share with you. The Cham has a population of about 162 thousand inhabitants living in the provinces of Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh. Their language belongs to the Malayo-Polynesian group. The Cham have a tradition of wet rice cultivation. They are also experienced in fishing and making handicrafts, especially silk and hand-made pottery. Every year, they hold the Katé festival to commemorate the dead and honor heroes in the Cham community. Various agricultural ceremonies are performed during the year for a new canal, for young rice and for so many other occasions. Personally, I find the Cham ethnic people very interesting. Experience their way of life if possible, it’s worth your time.
