Make notes by using passive and active note-taking strategies
Reflecting is good to do throughout your course. If you use a learner diary, go through it at least once a week to reflect on where you are now and where you were a week ago. Recycling is reusing information you've gathered in new ways. Reflecting is more about considering your attitude and how you feel about certain subjects or aspects of the course and is much more about the emotions. The result of reflection maybe that you need to talk to your tutor or student adviser because you feel uncomfortable about something that you can't specify as clearly as you can the need to find out a date or a definition. Reflection can allow doubts as well as satisfaction to come to the surface, and both emotions are good. If you know that you have doubts, you can do something about them. If you bury them, you deny them their role, which is to let you know when you need to get help - a bit like an early warn- ing system. Simply the ability to express them out loud (another use for the recorder) can help you to recognise them and take steps to sort things out.
