Everyone had their own favorite book when they were young, and so did I. Have you ever heard about Doraemon? This is the name of a Japanese comic book. This book is strange to children in the United States, but this book is the dream gift of many kids in my country. Doraemon is the first book that I read. I like Doraemon because it is not only like a friend whom I feel comfortable but also it is like a teacher who teaches me many valuable lessons. Moreover, thanks to Doraemon, I discover that I like reading books.
When I was seven years old, I was very sick. I had tonsillitis, and doctors said that they could not cut them out. I had a high fever, so I had to stay home about a week. My mom bought two brand-new Doraemon books and gave them to me. The way that my mom treated me made me surprise. At that time, my parents were not rich people, and I knew they usually did not spend much money in these entertaining things. I used to try to save my breakfast money, so I could buy these books. I was so happy because my mom gave me this special gift. One of my dreams came true when I received these books. Although I was still sick, I enjoyed reading Doraemon I stayed home about a week, and I stuck this book all the time. Sometimes, it made my mom mad because I did not eat anything, but I still could read these books. Doraemon was like medicine that made me forget about my sickness.
Doraemon is a cute-kind character. He is an intelligent robotic cat, and he travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a schoolboy, Nobita. Doraemon has a pocket from which he produces many gadgets medicines, and tools from the future. A majority of Doraemon episodes are comedies with lessons regarding values as honesty, perseverance, courage, family and respect for elders. Besides that, miscellaneous educational topics such as dinosaurs, the flat Earth theory, wormhole traveling, etc. are often covered in Doraemon.
Reading Doraemon made me have fun and learn a lot. After reading Doraemon, I realized the interest of reading. Thanks to reading, I could portray the lives in the world by sitting at home. I could smile or cry with the characters in the books. I could discover many new things that I had not known. I was not good at literature, so I used to hate to study reading and writing. However, Doraemon changed me from a girl who just liked numbers to a girl who enjoyed reading. Doraemon kindled my imagination and creativity. Doraemon made me think about the optimism that someone like Doraemon would come to help me when I was in troubles.
Nowadays, there are a lot of new technologies. Hence, it is easy for me to read books that I like on the Internet. Moreover, I can read many kinds of materials such as magazines, newspapers, blogs, etc. Technology makes an easy way for me to read something, and it also increases my knowledge.
