The Thai ethnic group is the second largest ethnic minority in Vietnam with approximately 1.5 million people. They habit mainly in Northwest Vietnam such as Son La, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Lai Chau. Because Thai people belong to the Tay – Thai group, the Thai people speak a language of the Tay-Thai language family.
They live in wooden stilt houses, cultivate sticky rice and other crops and breed cattle and poultry. The most famous product of the Thai ethnic group is brocade fabric. It is designed with unique patterns, beautiful colors, and good material.
Nowadays, the Thai men dress blue or black indigo or brocade shirts, long trousers with a belt but they recently wear the King’s clothing style. However, the Thai women still wear a close-fitting blouse, a black long skirt and a brocade head scarf
The Thai have a big treasure of legends, myths, and poems. They worship their ancestor and natural Gods because their life depends on agricultural cultivation. There are also many festival held annually to celebrate special events.
