Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Viet Nam. In 1979, there were only 3,4 million and in years later the population of the city was only about 4 million because the economy did not develop much. However, thanks to the Renovation policy starting in 1989, in the next decade there was a dramatic increase in population, and the figure reached over 5 million. With economic growth, the living standard in Ho Chi Minh City is higher than that in other regions, so many people came to this city to look for jobs. As a result, Ho Chi Minh is the biggest city in Viet Nam with a population of over 7 million in 2009, and now about 8 million.
