Vietnamese countryside life is simple and traditional. People gather to form villages. Each village developed its own regulations. The purpose of these regulations is the promotion of good customs within populations. In each village, there is a communal cultural house where villagers often hold events to worship the village god or important celebrities. Vietnamese villagers survive by farming, raising cattle and making handicraft. They are well known for being kind, hard – working and patient. Villagers usually get up very early in the morning. After the children leave for school, the adults usually go to the rice paddies, feed the pigs, collect eggs and grow vegetables. Children often help their parents do housework chores after school. Vietnamese people highly respect the importance of family in their life. According to Vietnamese tradition, the old generations are highly admired by the young ones. MY VILLAGE
I live in a village by Mekong River. Every day, like most of my friends, I walk to school. It is three kilometres away. After class, I often help my mother to collect water from the river and feed the chickens. At the weekend, the villagers often gather at the community hall where there is a TV. The adults watch TV, but more often they talk about their farm work and exchange news. The children run around, playing games and shouting merrily. Laughter is heard everywhere.
My father sometimes takes me to the market town nearby where he sells our home products like vegetables, fruits, eggs… He then buys me an ice cream and lets me take a ride on the electric train in the town square. I love those trips.
