Nhận xét về nghệ thuật tả cảnh trong "Truyện Kiều", giáo sư Lê Chí Viễn viết: "Riêng về tả cảnh thì Nguyễn Du cũng theo truyền thống có sẵn trong văn học Trung Quốc cũng như trong văn học Việt Nam. Cảnh xen vào tâm trạng con người là để làm nổi bật tâm trạng ấy. Nhiều khi lại không trực tiếp tả tâm trạng nhân vật mà xuyên qua cảnh vật gợi lên tâm trạng ấy.
