Reading the Following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions. The most common causes of tsunamis are underwater earthquakes. To understand earthquakes, you must first understand plate tectonics. The theory of plate tectonics suggests that the lithosphere, or top layer of the Earth, is made up of a series of huge plates. These plates make up the continents and seafloor. They rest on an underlying viscous layer called the asthenosphere. Think of pie cut into eight slices. The pie crust would be the lithosphere and the hot, sticky pie filling underneath would be the asthenosphere. On the Earth, these plates are constantly in motion, moving along each other at a speed of 1 to 2 inches ( 2.5 – 5 cm) per year. The movement occurs most dramatically along earthquakes and volcanism, which, when they occur at the bottom of the ocean, are two possible sources of tsunamis. When two plates come into contact at a region known as a plate boundary, a heavier plate can slip under a lighter one. This is called subduction. Underwater subduction often leaves enormous “ handprints” in the form of deep ocean trenches along the seafloor. In some cases of subduction, part of the seafloor connected to the lighter plate may “snap up” suddenly due to pressure from the sinking plate. This results in an earthquake. The focus of the the earthquke is the point within the Earth where the rupture first occurs, rock break and the first seismic waves are generated. The epicenter is the point on the seafloor directly about the focus. When this piece of the plate snaps up and sends tons of rock shooting upward with tremendous force, the energy of that force is transferred to the water. The energy pushes the water upward above normal sea level. This is birth of a tsunami. The earthquake that generated the December 26, 2004 tsunami in the Idian Ocean was a 9.0 on the Richter scale – one of the biggest in recorded history. ( Source: Solomon Asea)

Read the passage, then choose the correct answer A, B, C or D.
Let's see if you can correctly answer the following question: At what age are Latter-day Saint youth allowed to date? Of course, you probably immediately said, “16”. OK, then, how about this one: At what age are you allowed to have a boyfriend or girlfriend? You may be thinking, “Um, 16. Didn’t I just answer that?” Well, if that was your answer, then, even though you aced the first question, you missed the second one. Just because you can date when you turn 16 doesn't mean you should immediately start looking for a steady boyfriend or girlfriend.
For decades, prophets have preached that youth who are in no position to marry should not pair off exclusively. For instance, President Hinckley (1910-2008) said, “When you are young, do not get involved in steady dating. When you reach an age where you think of marriage, then is the time to become so involved. But you boys who are in high school don’t need this, and neither do the girls". So what does this counsel really mean, and what are the reasons for it?
To begin with, there are two different types of dating: casual dating steady (or serious) dating. The distinction between the two has to do with exclusivity. With casual dating, there is no exclusivity. The two people aren’t “a couple” or “an item”, and they don't refer to each other as a “boyfriend or “girlfriend”. They don’t pair off. People who are casually dating are simply friends. This is the kind of dating the Church encourages you to do after you turn 16. You should put aside a need to find a “one and only”. If you’re dating casually, you don’t expect a relationship to become a romance. You have fun, you do a variety of things with a variety of people. On the other hand, steady dating means the couple is exclusive with one another. They expect each other not to date anyone else or to be emotionally or physically close with other people. Couples who date seriously consider the future, because there is a real possibility they could stay together. This is the kind of dating the Church encourages young adults (generally, people in their 20s) to progress toward, because that’s the age when they should be thinking of marrying.
You should avoid becoming exclusive as teenagers, because an exclusive relationship requires a high level of commitment from both partners, and you’re not in a position to make that kind of commitment as teens - neither emotionally, physically, nor in terms of your future plans. As President Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, has said to youth. “Avoid steady dating. Steady dating is courtship, and surely the beginning of courtship ought to be delayed until you have emerged from your teens”.

Energy can never be created or destroyed, only (1)………… - moved from place to place. One way energy is moved from place to place is by moving objects. Imagine hitting a tee ball with a bat. When you hit the ball with the bat, energy is transferred from the bat to the ball. If you swing the bat slowly, the ball won't go very far when you hit it. But if you swing the bat faster, it will have more (2) ………… energy. That energy will be transferred to the ball, and the ball will go much farther. Energy can also be transferred through sound. Try high-fiving your friend very slowly. You probably won't make very much sound. If you high-five at the normal speed, your hands have more kinetic energy, and you'll make a nice smack. What you're hearing is energy (3) ………… sound. The same thing happens when you hit a drum, or pluck the strings of a guitar. Energy can also be transferred through light. Light from the sun makes your body feel warmer. Plants use energy from light and grow bigger and make oxygen. Energy can also be transferred through (4) …………. This kind of energy can be used for almost anything. But remember: Energy cannot be created. Energy in the form of electricity has to be transferred from another kind of energy. Wind power uses a machine called a turbine that turns the energy of the wind into electricity. Coal, oil, and gas power burn different kinds of material, creating heat that gets turned into electricity. Solar power (5) ………… electricity from the sun's light — although not as easily as a plant.

Stamp collecting is the collecting of postage stamps and related objects, such as envelopes or packages with stamps on them. It is one of the world’s most popular hobbies, with estimates of the number of collectors ranging up to million in the United States alone. Many collectors enjoy accumulating stamps without worrying about the tiny details, but the creation of a large or comprehensive collection generally requires some philatelic knowledge. This is especially important for those who intend to spend large amounts for stamps. Stamp collectors are an important source of revenue for some small countries that create limited runs of elaborate stamps designed mainly to be bought by stamp collectors. The stamps produced by these countries far exceed the postal needs of the countries. Some collectors, observing the generally rising prices of rare stamps, have taken to Philatelic Investment. Rare stamps are among the most portable investments, and are easy to store. They offer an attractive alternative to art, other collectible investments, and precious metals.

Hobbies are practiced for interest and enjoyment, rather than financial reward. Examples include collecting, creative and artistic pursuits, making, tinkering, sports and adult education. Engaging in a hobby can lead to acquiring substantial skill, knowledge, and experience. However, personal fulfilment is the aim.
What are hobbies for some people are professions for others: a game tester may enjoy cooking as a hobby, while a professional chef might enjoy playing (and helping to debug) computer games. Generally speaking, the person who does something for fun, not remuneration, is called an amateur (or hobbyist), as distinct from professional.
An important determinant of what is considered a hobby, as distinct from a profession (beyond the lack of remuneration), is probably how easy it is to make a living at the activity. Almost no one can make a living at cigarette card or stamp collecting, but many people find it enjoyable; so it is commonly regarded as a hobby.
Amateur astronomers often make meaningful contributions to the professionals. It is not entirely uncommon for a hobbyist to be the first to discover a celestial body or event.
In the UK, the pejorative noun anorak (similar to the Japanese 'otaku' meaning a geek or enthusiast) is often applied to people who obsessively pursue a particular hobby that is considered boring, such as train spotting or stamp collecting.

The making and showing of motion pictures became a source of profit almost as soon as film was invented. In 1898, some first commercial movies were ever produced. Other films soon followed, and motion picture became a separate industry that was greater than any other industries. Several theaters and companies were formed specifically to produce and distribute films, while film stars became famous and often asked for huge salary for their performances. In 1917, Charlie Chaplin had a contract that called for an annual salary of one million dollars. In the United States today, much of the film industry is centered around Hollywood. Other centers exist in many parts of the world, and the film industry produces the largest number of films in the world every year. It is expensive to make movies so some film producers are sometimes dependent on movie studios. However, recent advances in film making equipment have allowed film producers to be more independent. A typical Hollywood style filmmaking production cycle consists of five main stages: Development, Preproduction, Production, Post-production, Distribution. This production cycle typically takes three years. The first year is taken up with development. The second year comprises preproduction and production. The third year, post-production and distribution. Profit is a key force in the industry, because filmmaking is expensive many filmmakers try to create works of lasting social significance. The Academy Awards, also known as The Oscars, are the most prominent film awards in the US, providing recognition each year to films, based on their artistic values.
