In the old days, during the 18th King Hung King, there was a boy named Mai An Tiem. Mai An Tiem was agile, resourceful and hard-working so he was very fond of the king and even married his daughter. The King loved An Tiem so much that he often gave him lots of delicious things and strange things.
Everyone who received the king's blessings cherished praise, but An Tiem said:
- I made a new wealth, and the gift is the worry, of the debt!
He is still hard-working, has no intention of looking forward to the king's fortune.
All were waiting for that, the security officer went to bring the words of Mai An Tiem to the king. The king was extremely angry and thought that he was an ungrateful arrogant man. The king was very angry: "So to see, if only rely on his strength, he can not live?". He sent soldiers to arrest Mai An Tiem and then chased his family to the deserted island.
Mai An Tiem's family floated on the sea day in and day out. Finally, they landed on a strange island. Mai An Tiem's wife cried and cried out:
- Why am I so miserable? Knowing that, we should not make the king angry!
- Heaven gave birth to us, life and death are in heaven and in us. With just these hands, we will not be afraid of starvation. - Mai An Tiem comforted his wife.
Incidentally, Mai An Tiem discovered a flock of birds coming from the West, they landed on the shore and were eating some kind of black seed. Mai An Tiem thought: "This nut can be eaten by birds, people can eat it!"
Thinking that, Mai An Tiem immediately gathered all the seeds and planted them in the ground. Day by day, Mai An Tiem tried to fertilize her garden. Soon, his garden became lush, luxuriant. The tree blooms, fruiting. In the harvest time, Mai An Tiem and her wife and children brought all the ripe fruits home. All fruits are dark green, when added, the inside of the intestine is bright red, juicy and has black seeds as well. When eating, the fruit is delicious, sweet and fragrant.

One day, a boat met a storm, so he docked on the island to avoid the storm. Everybody went to the sand, saw a lot of strange and delicious fruits. They exchanged food for An Tiem's family. From there, rumors spread that there was a very delicious fruit variety on that island. Busy merchant ships stop by to exchange food and food for the An Tiem family to taste the delicious fruits. Thanks to that, An Tiem's small family became full, life was more fully affluent.
Because the bird brought seeds from the West, An Tiem named this fruit Tay Qua. Chinese traders feel delicious, complimenting it as "hot", so after they call the driver a watermelon fruit.
