Tom and Jerry is an American animated series and comedy short series created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Best known for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's 161 theatrical short films, the series revolves around a competition between the protagonists of a cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry. The series features comic battles between an iconic pair of opponents, a domestic cat (Tom) and a mouse (Jerry). The plots of each short often focus on many of Tom and Jerry's attempts to get the best out of each other and the chaos and destruction that followed. Despite Tom's clever strategies (whether they work or not), consistent and dynamic thinking, large size, and exceptional intelligence, he rarely succeeds in the best extraction. Jerry, mostly because of Jerry's cunning, good fortune and his lack of tendencies is a bit too reckless. However, in some cases, they have shown sincere friendship and concern for each other's well-being.
