1. It was a terrible winter and that morning I had to travel to another city
2. I was going to attend a lecture there, but when I arrived at the railway station I was told that train was cancelled
3. It had snowed during the night and lines were blocked
4. Therefore, I had to go home to get my car
5. At half past eight, I set off four hours before the lecture started
6. I drove slowly because of snow
7. I had never had accident but the road was so bad and I was afraid what might happen
8. An hour or so later, a car overtook me when I suddenly saw a van coming towards us
9. I tried to slow down but I skidded on snow and the other car hit me and pushed me off the road
10. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and the other driver got out and looked embarrassed
11. " I am awfully sorry”, he said, "I am in a hurry because I am giving a lecture at twelve-thirty"
