Water pollution is not only a national problem but also a global problem. So what causes water pollution? The first is pollution due to natural conditions. Floods, storms, melting snow, droughts, etc. are factors that seriously affect water resources on earth. There is also a cause that is dead plants and animals, they are thrown into rivers, lakes, ponds and streams.The second is pollution of water sources due to waste in daily life: population increases and urbanization processes take place strongly, so domestic waste increases very strongly. Next is water pollution due to agricultural production: it is caused by the abuse of pesticides such as pesticides, herbicides, snail killers, etc. Finnally is water pollution due to industrial production: there are thousands and millions of factories operating in industrial production every day, emitting tons of CO2 and other toxic chemicals.Therefore, we need to have solutions to reduce water pollution: need to raise people's awareness of waste use and treatment; treat industrial waste and domestic waste before being discharged into the environment; use pesticides properly; actively use solutions to treat contaminated water.

Ô nhiễm nguồn nước không chỉ là vấn đề quốc gia mà còn là vấn đề toàn cầu. Vậy nguyên nhân nào gây ra ô nhiễm nguồn nước?
Đầu tiên là ô nhiễm do các điều kiện của tự nhiên. Lũ lụt, gió bão, tuyết tan, hạn hán,…là những tác nhân ảnh hưởng nghiêm trọng đến nguồn nước trên trái đất. Ngoài ra còn có nguyên nhân đó là động thực vật chết, chúng bị vứt xuống sông, hồ, ao suối.
Thứ hai là ô nhiễm nguồn nước do rác thải trong sinh hoạt: dân số tăng cùng các quá trình đô thị hóa diễn ra mạnh nên rác thải sinh hoạt tăng lên rất mạnh.
Tiếp theo là ô nhiễm nguồn nước do quá trình sản xuất nông nghiệp: đó là do sự lạm dụng thuốc bảo vệ thực vật như thuốc trừ sâu, thuốc diệt cỏ, diệt ốc,...
Cuối cùng là ô nhiễm nguồn nước do quá trình sản xuất công nghiệp: có hàng nghìn, hàng triệu nhà máy hoạt động sản xuất công nghiệp mỗi ngày, thải ra rất nhiều tấn khí CO2 và các chất hóa học độc hại khác.
Vì vậy chúng ta cần phải có các giải pháp để giảm nguồn nước ô nhiễm: cần nâng cao ý thức sử dụng và xử lý rác thải của người dân; xử lí chất thải công nghiệp, chất thải sinh hoạt trước khi xả ra môi trường; dùng các thuốc bảo vệ thực vật đúng cách; tích cực sử dụng những giải pháp xử lí nước bị ô nhiễm.
